In this blog, I will share personal stories about how I have been impacted by ADHD as a parent. I will tell you what I wish I had done differently too. There is no simple answer or fix with ADHD. It’s complicated, just like people. We’re all different.
I will also share about my successes. My son has done well. I believe part of this is because of how we have addressed his difficulties each step of the way. He’s had tutoring, therapy, medication, school supports, and naturopathic interventions. We’ve focused on his strengths, like music. This process has been far from perfect (read my book, you’ll see). But we have done our best to support him, apologize when we screw up, and encourage his independence.
I will also share what I’ve learned (and continue to learn) about ADHD as a psychologist. I am a professional member of national organizations, like Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD), and I attend annual workshops about ADHD. So get ready to join me on this journey. 🙂
Before you go, join my mailing list to receive my monthly newletter loaded with resources for your family, my recent blogs and podcasts, events, and more. I NEVER share your personal information. I can’t stand things like that!
It sounds like you will be sharing some very valuable information. Interested in reading more!
Thank you for your supportive comment. I am interested in reading more of your information too.
Best,
Katherine
It’s so important to focus on strengths. So many of the students that I have with ADHD just feel like they can never do anything right. It’s so hard for them in a school setting.
I love that you focus on not only the positive and the strengths, but that you acknowledge the challenges and how hard it can be.
